Now, to the concert:

From the very first song NO Italian ass was sitting in his/her seat anymore ( with the exception of a few guys on VIP seats opposite the stage at the back of the arena – but some guys like that you can find at every show, you just have to ignore them), everybody was on his /her feet, singing along and dancing.
So I soon forgot about us ( DH and me) having to stand in line in front of the Datch Forum in the dark for 2 long hours, ending up on seats which were situated more at the back of the arena because the best seats had been occupied already long before we were allowed to enter. A big part of all the tix were GA or 1. balcony, no numbered seats anywhere, you could choose where to go.
I sure was a bit disappointed about our seats at first, but all my bad feelings soon vanished into thin air as soon as the show started!

Bruce up on the dark stage shouted :”Anybody alive out there??!!” And immediately after that shout the audience was yelling back –and on its feet, no doubt about that I tell ya!!!!!!!!!
Reading all this stuff in recent weeks here about the only place to be at a Bruce show being the pit I for my part think that’s just crap - if you happen to be in Italy!!!
I’ve been in the pit a few times, loved being there – but there’s some advantage being in the back as well: you can watch the whole arena – and if there’s such a crowd like in Italy, you just are in for a treat .
Sure, you don’t get the chance strumming Bruce’s guitar - but you can watch the whole arena dancing, jumping, waving the arms in the air – and that’s some sight in Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But what I love especially about an Italian audience that’s its complete quiet when there’s a song which just requires exactly that: quiet.
Incident was such a song , you could feel the emotion of the crowd almost tangible.
Magic was a similar experience, Soozy singing beautifully along with Bruce.

And then, there were songs like Thunder Road when the Italians just didn’t need anyone( not even Bruce!!) on stage to sing for them: THEY SURE COULD DO THAT ON THEIR OWN, EVERY WORD, LOL!!!
Or on Long Walk Home: we did sing the refrain a thousand times I think, conducted by Bruce:
Hey pretty Darling
Don’t wait up for me
Gonna be a long walk home...

I for my part got very emotional when I got to listen to IWFYL for the very first time live in concert: I just happen to love that song.
And, after lots of discussions about its meaning here on the board in recent weeks I was standing there in the Datch Forum, listening – and while watching Bruce performing that song I suddenly looked at its meaning quite differently:
Bruce looked out at the crowd, his hand on his heart repeatedly – and I felt he’s telling us HE HIMSELF is working for OUR love.
I forgot about Theresa and her dusty glasses, I just felt Bruce talking to us, telling us about his dedication.
This guy and his music: that’s his life, his reason to be – and without an audience, without US, he’s lost: so HE’LL WORK FOR OUR LOVE.

As for other songs :
You know the setlist, there were rarities like E- Street- Shuffle, splendid! But I especially was overwhelmed by a wonderful The Promised Land, it can’t get any better!
Max was drumming splendidly on Devil’s Arcade – you could hear the “ beat of her heart” , you could FEEL it.
Girls In Their Summer Clothes – I don’t get why some folks around here didn’t like it live in concert : I thought it was perfect.
The house lights were on for BTR – and I noticed even the VIP morons were finally out of their seats, a long time coming, LOL!

Now , next stop for me being Mannheim on Sunday: I sure hope the Mannheimers, most of them my fellow country men, won’t disappoint me, after that splendid Milano crowd, I hope for the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
